The ombre silk Burberry blouse, the tan Celine bag, and all those glorious pencil skirts… here’s my round-up of the best new Rachel Zane outfits on Suits.
Whoa. I can’t believe we have reached the mid-season finale of Suits already. I’m loving all the flashbacks in everyone’s storyline and, as per usual, I am beyond obsessed with everyone’s fashion.
This means it is also time for a little fashion update – there have been so many great additions to Meghan Markle’s wardrobe since I published my last glimpse inside Rachel Zane’s Suits closet.
I feel as though Rachel, Donna and Jessica have really refined their wardrobes in the last two seasons; as though they know exactly what suits them and just keep pulling out hit after hit. Rachel with her tonal separates (silk blouses, button up shirts, cardigans and pencil skirts in similar shades), Donna with her playful geometric cuts and lively print dresses, and Jessica with her sculptural silhouettes and richly textured draping.
Let’s kick things off with Rachel’s wardrobe!
Of all the women on this show, Rachel likes to mix it up the most with her workwear. The queen of ‘separates’, Rachel is rarely seen in a dress, instead opting for silk blouses, pencil skirts, cashmere sweaters, cropped cardigans and tailored shirts.
This season I feel as though she has dialled down the flirt factor that used to work its way through her ensembles and also embraced dressing tonally – as in, variations of the same colour, not mixing a lot of colours together. The colour palette has also changed subtly; more neutrals, greys and monochrome, and far more white than previous seasons (a nod to her impending bride status?) with the odd blush pink or burgundy throw in. There is also less blue in her wardrobe than usual, a colour that I always associate with ambition (especially in the workplace), which perhaps signals Rachel’s newfound level of security with both her career (essentially as Harvey’s associate) and relationship (as Mike’s fiancee).
Reminiscent of Rachel’s season 2 outing with Louis at the ballet, this season we were once again treated to a black tie ensemble from Rachel: when she accompanies Jessica to an event at which she (Jessica) is speaking.
Here’s what Suits USA had to say about this scene:
Jessica Pearson is known for her bottomless closet of fine business attire, so when it’s time to get “dressed up” it’s no surprise she goes all out – her Zac Posen gown and Gucci sandals would have set her back over $5000. Rachel’s no slouch either, despite Jessica’s teasing, with a Burberry gown of her own at a similar price point.
It’s hard to pick a favourite Burberry moment in Rachel’s closet, since it is definitely her preferred label for every possible occasion: black tie, working girl pencil skirts, blouses… heck, even her dressing gown is Burberry. But for die-hard fans of the British brand, it will be the coats that get you most excited; they are definitely my personal favourite. Season four brought out the two most amazing Burberry coats, below, while season five showed us a pale grey version with wider sleeves (which I haven’t been able to identify yet – anybody recognise it at the end, below, holler at me). Perhaps it’s because I’ve had some appallingly misshapen coats in my time, but I just find the craftsmanship of well-cut coats, particularly Burberry ones, so luxurious. Don’t you?
