Miss Piggy’s Vivienne Westwood wardrobe for MUPPETS MOST WANTED
Wondering who Miss Piggy turns to when she wants to add a little glamour in Muppets Most Wanted?
Her extensive sparkly wardrobe – including a green sequin mermaid dress and Spanish flamenco outfit – was designed entirely by costume designer Rahel Afiley.
Of course, this being Miss Piggy, there were bound to be a couple of designer pieces in the mix, and these were created exclusively by iconic British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood for Miss Piggy’s London scenes.
“On the last film (The Muppets, 2011), I just had Zac Posen do a dress and Louis Vuitton made a pair of shoes,” Afiley told Clothes on Film, admitting that she also considered another British designer for Piggy’s London scenes, Stella McCartney, but that didn’t work out. “Vivienne Westwood only designed four outfits. She wanted to do every outfit Miss Piggy wears in London, and that included the wedding dress.”
It is more than just a dress however; it’s a long, ivory couture wedding gown with corset detailing and a tulle veil, all designed by Westwood.
Other styles created by Westwood for the film include a houndstooth-check coat and a silver hand-embroidered floral lace gown.
I especially loved the mini-interview between Miss Piggy and Vivienne Westwood in last month’s edition of US Harpers Bazaar!
“The dress is one of my favorite styles,” said Westwood of Miss Piggy’s couture wedding gown. “It’s called the Court dress and is inspired by 17th-century English royalty and the court of King Charles II. It has been designed especially for [Miss Piggy] in a white pearl sequin fabric made from recycled water bottles. It’s the perfect choice for a royal sow.”
And the Piggy/Westwood love affair didn’t end there. Piggy fronted up to the Muppets Most Wanted Los Angeles premiere last week wearing a blue silk taffeta evening gown designed by, you guessed it, Vivienne Westwood.
